Buy ART and HELP a child!!

I posted a couple of months ago a piece that I completed for KC Young Variety. They are a fabulous charity that helps kids who have disabilities! I love this organization because they really help kids live a normal life. One thing they do is they gift them adaptive bikes that they can ride just like any other kid. Through my work with disabled people I have learned that they just wanted to be treated normal. They want to be included in the every day activities that most people take for granted. They want to be able to work, have a home, take care of themselves just like everyone else does. As children they have dreams, and with the help of organizations like KC Young Variety they take away some of the limitations they might have on these dreams! These kids are amazing the obstacles that they overcome. They have a true LOVE for life that I believe in giving that same love back!

I encourage all of you to go to the Mission Farms "hooray for the holidays" website and find a piece of art that you love, and BID!! All of these pieces are worth so much more money than they are going for right now. All of the artists put a lot of love into these works. You won't ever find a WIN, WIN situation like this! You could help make a kids dream come true, and own a piece of original ART! YEAH!

I Challenge you!

Today I was looking through my sister in laws Christmas List. She had reminded me of an awesome idea that is out there right now! There are a lot of different versions out there. But, a journal that encourages you to create something every day! Sometimes as an artist I feel like I am always working on a "project". It is easy to forget the idea of just being creative with out an end objective.

In college we were graded on our journals. We had exercises to do every day that we of course "had" to do. But, there was a purpose to my professors' madness. It really got you exploring different ideas and to think outside the box.

So, I think I have decided... ok maybe I am committing myself to do something creative this year every day. I am doing this with no intent to sell. I am doing it with the intent to create for the JOY of it! I will update you on my progress via my blog. If you are interested in coming along this journey with me, I welcome you!

Here is to a NEW Journey of Creative exploration in 2012!!

Beautiful Bride

I have been meaning to post this photo for a LONG time! A beautiful bride came to visit me and purchase a painting as they celebrated their big day! It was such a thrill to see her walk into my booth at the Plaza Art Fair holding a glass of champaign, and glowing from head to toe! I had to share it with you!

KC Young Variety Donation

I just finished this piece that I am donating to KC Young Variety. They have created an event at the Mission Farms shopping center. 19 artists have donated paintings that will be in the windows of each business through the month of December. These pieces will be up for silent auction.

To celebrate this event they are having a kick off happy hour at Blanc Burgers +Bottles. Thursday November 17th from 5:00 - 7:00.

KC Young Variety does amazing work for children. They help improve the lives and mobility of physically and mentally challenged children. For those of you who know me I have worked a lot with people who have disabilities and encouraging them with the expression of art. This charity really strikes a note in my heart. So, I hope that you all will come out and support this amazing cause... and maybe take home an original masterpiece while you are at it!

Anything Is Possible! This is a piece that I newly finished. I am really enjoying the direction that my work is leading in. I am enjoying layering more and more. The pieces visually are getting more abstracted, and utilizing pattern and repetition. Of course, I am staying very true to myself always as much focused on the visual as I am the content. There is always a message that seeks a viewer to complete the story. So, I wanted to give you a peak at one of the newest pieces.

I hope everyone is having an awesome 2011! As spring time is here you also know that the season of Art Fairs has arrived! I am beginning to add new work for this year on my website. I am really enjoying all of the layering and textures I am working into these pieces. I am hoping that you will like the results of my playfulness!

Commission in progress update...

I have been working on a large commission piece for a while now. This painting is 7' x 8'! It is great fun to work on. I am a tall girl. But, for a piece this large I even have to use a ladder! It takes a lot of paint to fill a canvas this size. It has changed a lot since I posted pictures last. This really adds to the enjoyment of doing a piece to me. I like the process of layering. You can see the early stages of the piece showing through still. I enjoy seeing this history of the evolution of each painting that I create. I took a quick image to share. I hope that you enjoy... and I hope my client does too!

Project Complete! Photo Shoot!

I am sorry to say I have been meaning to post these pictures for over a year now! (*giggle) A Client of mine had her interior design done by Twigs Interiors. It turned out fabulous! (In my humble opinion) So, they decided to do a photo shoot!

This is an awesome way for you to see how much the right color and design, added with the perfect piece of original artwork can make your house into a home! Thank you to the photographer, Gary Rohman.

You can see how you don't always have to hang a painting, when you have a nice thick contemporary edge on a painting.

This is a wonderful contemporary way to spice up your bar!

Again, a lovely way to display a painting over the fireplace, sitting on the mantle.

The added color on the wall goes perfect with the pinks and purples!

Stacking pieces is a great way to fill a skinny space.

A painting can really make a space personal, and create a mood!

It is such a beautiful space! I wish I could move in!

Not to get into the whole "Men and women are different" bit, which is the stuff of third-rate comedy and secondhand ideas, but the idea of getting dressed up doesn't come with equal baggage for both genders. We guys tend to get extra credit for putting on a blazer and knotting our own neckwear ... but the level of scrutiny gets ratcheted way up for women in the same situation.

So when Suze Ford created a series of paintings with classic party dresses as the dominant image, the statement was one of more than fashion.

Consumed with images and emotions of memories, dreams, faith, expectations, history, words, journals, colors, text, space, textures, culture, gender, identity, even lyrics and melodies, I find myself striving to make sense of it all, she writes. Sometimes it creates an overwhelming feeling of chaos. This is the inspiration for my work.

Everything on the "consumed by" list either is or can be involved in "dress-up" situations ... and more so for one gender than the other.

It's not a hopeless tale, though — and there's an elegance to Ford's brand of colorful chaos, which is on display through Sept. 11 at the Volker Neighborhood location of Room 39.

The simple lines of the dresses (as in Little Black Dress, pictured above) counterbalance and complement the riots of background color that are the hallmark of her paintings, each showing the other off to best effect.

My work comes from a perception of life as a girl, an adolescent and a woman, Ford writes. I like to think I illustrate an optimistic view point on the melancholy and awkwardness life can bring. The variable in all of this work is the place that each viewer comes from. One’s own life experiences are what define the story of each piece.

(To reinforce that ambiguity, all of the dresses are empty. Viewers are free to picture anyone they choose wearing them, for any variety of reasons.)

It's a beautiful, brainy body of work ... All Dressed Up and with all sorts of interesting places to go, for the eyes and mind alike.

Hey Everyone! Well, I have just uploaded a brand new collection of works! I am excited about a lot of these new pieces. I feel my work is moving in a very fulfilling direction. One thing is for sure, the layering is a huge part of my process. A professor once reminded me that a painting must get ugly first, before it achieves its true beauty. I have grown to embrace this thought to where it is completely necessary! (Example Rt: "Loving You", oil on canvas, 48 x 60)

Please take a look at my website. But, I have to tell you that the computer screen just won't due these pieces true justice. The textures, the layering, glazing, and sometimes delicate marks make their best impact in person! So, if you aren't doing anything this weekend, come to the Country Club Plaza Art Fair! Wonderful Comparison!

I have this wonderful client of mine that sent this picture to me. She is the collector of several of my pieces. Her daughters are aspiring artists themselves. After she saw this piece, "Single Lady" showing at Room 39 she had to add it to her collection. You see, her daughter Maddie created this piece she has displayed right next to it. The comparison in the colors is so similar it is remarkable! I love to see young artists like her creating such creative pieces beyond their years! I think we will have to look for Maddie one day as being quite the prodigy artist!

Is it November Already?

Wow, I don't know where October went! I have been working on some projects and goals that I have set for myself for the coming year. I also have found myself with the diligence to clean my studio! It is amazing how reorganizing can open up so much more space! It is awesome now that I have some nice time to start working on my ideas for new works for 2010, and staying busy with all of my commission requests! I am truly enjoying my time in the studio, doing what I like to think I do best!

Coming soon I will be posting pictures from a photo shoot my paintings were in! I will tell you the work looked fabulous! I can't wait to see the final prints!

The end of the year is ending rapidly! To all of you who have been thinking about purchasing one of my pieces, or would like a custom commission piece NOW is a great time! Think about a unique Christmas gift for someone special, or better yet... put it on your list for someone else to buy!

The 78th Annual Plaza Art Fair is This weekend!

I wanted to make a quick post and remind everyone that this weekend is the long awaited Plaza Art Fair. If you are like me, and you grew up in Kansas City, you probably know that this is quite the tradition! I am so excited to be displaying my work this year, among 250 other artists. I am working hard on finishing up a lot of new work this week! So, all of my Kansas City people will get to see a lot of new paintings before anyone else!

Great photos from a client!

I received this wonderful photos from a client that I met in Iowa, at the Marion Art Festival! I have to tell you the day I met this couple it was a freezing cold day, with some extremely strong winds! I almost even had a painting fly away! If is wasn't for my good artist friend Chris Vance, that happen to be at the right place at the right time, and caught it!

I have to tell you that this couple were two of the nicest people I have ever met! He is a farmer, and she is a fabulous photographer!

After they decided on purchasing "The Ride" I had given them a post card of some of my other pieces. About 20 minutes later they came back and had to buy a piece that was on the card. "Two" had to be a part of their collection as well. They told me it fit perfectly because they have two boys. I must say the laughter that they brought to me on this cold day, made my entire trip to Marion Iowa worth it!

I thought I would share these wonderful photos of "Two" and "The Ride" in their new home! I think they look very happy in this sitting area next to the window! Thank You Dawn for sharing your great stories with me on what these pieces mean to you! I love it!!!

ZEST' Showing beginning tonight!

I am pleased to anounce that several of my larger paintings will be hanging at Zest'. This is an amazing restaurant located in Mission Farms, 10681 Mission Road, Leawood KS, 66206. If you haven't had a chance to make it there you are missing out! They have amazing food and wine, and now an added experience of viewing my art work! Yeah!

ARTichokes will be having their offical opening tonight from 6-8 pm. Feel free to swing in there as well, and check out all of their great new artists showing, and their rennovations they have been working on!

Also, be looking for new work to post on my website next week! I have been working in the studio like a mad scientist on a variety of new and exciting pieces!

"I Write"

Now I am back home after being gone for 10 days. I learned a lot on this past trip. I am truly appreciative of every moment. I am so pleased that so much of my new work is sold and they are all in some great new homes! I can't explain how amazing it feels to have your work so well accepted. I went ahead and posted some of them on my website so some of you can enjoy looking at them, even though they are sold!

I would have to say that the most popular questions I was asked on this trip is "where do you get your ideas?", and "where do you get your writings?" So, I thought I would address both of these here. I always point people in the direction of my artist statement. It truly explains my source of inspiration the best. I also point out to people my sketch book that rarely leaves my side. I am constantly sketching and writing when I am inspired by the world around me. Some pieces are about my life, and some are about others. I almost see myself as a story teller. I find that I am very in touch with how I feel about many things I embark in life, and at times very indifferent. Even when I feel I might stand alone in the opinions I might have, or the emotions I feel I am able to paint about it. The beautiful thing about this is that I find myself crossing lines and boundaries that conversation might not allow.

I thought I would post this piece above that reflects the journey my pieces take well. "I write where someone might take a look..." I hope you enjoy...

I wish everyone to feel the inspiration that I do every day. There is so much life around us that we miss if we don't open our eyes...

Here we come Madison and Ann Arbor!

Well, the day is coming near to hit the road again. I can't explain how excited I am to be heading to show at these two festivals back to back! The Art Fair on the square in Madison Wisconsin is going to be so exciting. There are over 400 artists that will be there from all over the country. I have heard such wonderful things about it that I am honored to be a part of it! I just hope I get a little time to leave my booth to see some of the wonderful art!

Then, we will hit the road again and head to Ann Arbor Michigan. This 4 day (yes you heard me right 4 DAYS!) event is going to be overwhelming I am sure at first. There are some 4 or 5 shows that go on at once in this beautiful town. And, they are all with in walking distance of each other. It is truly a huge event that people come from all over just to see (AND BUY :)). This is one of the only art fairs you can go to and see this number of artists at such a high caliber.

I will be taking my computer on the road and I hope to be making updates as soon as I can!

Site is up and Running!

Sorry everyone for the temporary malfunction! My site is now up and running! Yeah!

I will be updating it very soon with new work. I will also be simplifying the galleries down because so much of the work that is up right now is sold, and I don't want to confuse everyone with what is still available!

I will be sure to update everyone when the changes are made!

I also have gotten a lot of inquiries lately about coming to my studio to view my work. I currently am too busy traveling and painting to allow private visits. This is why i do recommend you to visit my website and email any inquiries about specific pieces to me. I also want to encourage you to take advantage of seeing my work when I have a showing. It is the best way to see my work all at once, and for me to get a chance to answer any questions that you might have!

Hello everyone! It has been a crazy couple of weeks. I have been in the studio as much as can creating more new work. I hope to have the new images edited and uploaded to my site as soon as possible. Unfortunately my website is currently down. I am not sure what the issue is, and I am trying to get to the bottom of it! Back and Gone again!

So, I just got back from Chicago Monday evening from the 57th Street Art Fair. It was my first year to participate. This show is the oldest art fair in Chicago. I had a great showing, considering we had some off and on rain on Saturday mixed with some cool winds. I have to say though the people of Chicago don't seem too worried about it. On Sunday the people came out prepared!

I met a lot of great artists as I always do. I love traveling and meeting so many different people. If you wait long enough you can meet someone from about every country in the world in Chicago. The diversity is wonderful and refreshing!

I have updated new images to my site, is you would like to go check them out. I am very happy with the direction my work is going in. I LOVE painting, and feel so fortunate that I am able to have a career out of it. When you love what you do it truly does not feel like work!

I am off to the studio! Tomorrow I hit the road again to Salina Kansas! Should be a great trip!

We all know the saying "One day you'll see your name in lights". Well, I thought my picture on the front page of the newspaper is almost as cool! A photographer from the Lee's Summit Tribune captured a great picture of me, a patron, and one of my newest paintings at the Brookside Art Annual. I thought I would post it on here for all of you to read....However, I am having difficulties getting it to upload. (So, I will have to post it when I get back in town)

Tomorrow I head to Iowa to a show that I am very excited to do!! It is one day long so I am thinking it should be an intense experience!

Back to the Studio...

Well, after a great weekend in Brookside I am getting back to the studio! Thanks to the success of the last two shows I have to crack down and start creating new original works. I love getting out and talking to my clients and getting to know the communities I am in. It really fuels my creativity for the next stories on canvas to begin!

I thank everyone who has come out to see my work. I am happy to have met so many new people. I look forward to working with you all!

My sketchbook is full with new ideas.... I am off to paint!

Back From Austin... Ready For Brookside!

Well, I have to say that I had an amazing weekend in Austin! Even though I lived in Dallas for many years I never did spend too much time in Austin. Now, I am sad that I never did. I was truly missing out! This is such an amazing city! It is very easy to navigate, a million places to eat and drink, live music everywhere, incredibly nice people (including the bicycle chariots that will drive you where ever your heart desires), and most of all... people really appreciating ART!

I had a wonderful time, with my amazing assistant, my sister! I really appreciate how great this show was ran by the Art Alliance. I just hope I get to go back next year!

This weekend is the longly awaited Brookside Art Annual! I am very excited for this show in my hometown of Kansas City! This show has an amazing quality of artists that are put together, this year and every year. I am so glad to be a part of it! I will be showing at booth #15, under the big tent this year. The awesome thing is the crowd can look at art rain or shine due to the awesome tent that covers over half the show!

I can not wait to share my new work for 2009 with everyone!

Leaving Town Soon

I have been busy lately getting ready for my first show this year that is out of town. No matter how much I try to prepare for the day to pack up the van and hit the road, there is always a last minute run around for something forgotten. Today I was busy making boxes to carry my work safely. Tonight I have been busy uploading my newest tiny pieces to the website. My show schedule is still being updated. I do realize that I do not have all of my work up yet. There is still a lot to be done! "Tiny Art"

This Friday I will have pieces showing at the PI Art Gallery, located 419 E. 18th Street, KC MO 64108. This show is full of tiny works of art no larger than 12". This is a unique show to come see. You will find a lot of lower priced original works of art that are perfect for a Holiday gift! There is nothing better than giving a handmade present to some one you love!
Come by and say hello, check out the art, and have a warm cup of coffee!

Also, I have posted some of my new "Tiny Pieces" on my website. They all have a 3 inch edge which extends their dimension, adding a nice element. They are ready to hang and don't have to be framed! The pricing starts at $75. These would be great on their own, or to combine to create your own series!

Tiny Trio Installation

For those of you who have not seen my tiny paintings, this is a great installation of 3 of them. These pieces are created to take parts of a vocaublary that then evolve into a more in depth dialogue. You can also see that these have a 3 inch edge which the painting is carried around on. This aspect turns a 2D piece into almost a 3D approach to painting.
These 3 are 6" x 6", oil on canvas. I also create similar works that are 8" x 8". If you would like to see more pieces from this collection, please email me.

New Gallery showing @ Art on 3rd in Lee's Summit

My work is showing now at a new gallery in Downtown Lee's Summit. It is located at 18 S.W. Third St. There are plans of a big opening in October, that I will update everyone on. This Gallery space is amazing! Please check it out! If you need more information please feel free to contact me!

They are displaying NEW works of mine. They also will be organizing art classes there. If anyone is interested please inquire! It is a great opportunity to see new art and learn how to create yourself! There isn't anything this side of Kansas City like it! Hobbs Open Studios!

Its the Hobbs open studios! This event only happens twice a year! More than 25 of this building's artists will open it's doors to show you their newest creations!

Westport Art Fair 2008

I want to thank everyone for their support in this years Westport Art Fair! Despite the rain on Saturday it turned out to be a great show! It was very nice to see some old faces, and some new! I enjoy meeting with and talking to each and every one of you!

Summer Update

Hello everyone! I have been so busy this summer that I have not had a chance to do an update on my current events going on. I had an amazing summer travling to different shows. I am very pleased to say I will be ending the summer season up in my home town of Kansas City!

This weekend will be the Art Westport show 2008. My booth number is 48. It is about half way down the street on Pennsylvania. I have new work that you can come and see!

Show hours are:

Power and Light District Art Annual

This is a new peice in the beginning of a new body of work. I am enjoying working so loosly with the paint, using various methods of applications. The textures and layers is what I enjoy the most. This is a new piece in a series of paintings that combine both figurative images and abstract elements. This one has a lot of texture made by thick impasto style painting. This is also complimented with a lot of glazing.

New Commission Work , "Vision"

This is a large murral size painting that I just finished for a private collector in Dallas, TX. This oil painting measures 6' x 8'. I love painting peices this large, and in particularly this one. This peice is invinting, allowing the viewer to feel as if they are part of the painting. The idea is to create an environment with this peice rather than the painting being part of an environment. This peice speaks of seeing, feeling, believing, and reaching your vision. I truly believe that a life with out vision is one that is empty.

I am very excited to be showing my work at Luminopolis tonight! I have some new peices that will be making an appearance tonight that are very refreshing for me! The energy of First Fridays should be awesome. I will be spending the day hanging my peices, and preparing for the big night! I am looking forward to seeing familiar faces, and many new ones as well.
Moments like this truly make me feel very blessed. The struggles an artist goes through are worth every moment when you receive an opportunity like this!

UMKC Commission Paintings

The University of Missouri Kansas City Department of Research and Development does amazing things in this community. They work very hard on many programs and projects to include adults and children with disabilities into the community. I found it a huge honor to be asked to paint two paintings for them this year. Both works can be found hanging in their newly remodled conference and presentation room.
I would like to thank Dr. Calkins for this opportunity to paint such meaningful peices to such an amazing group!
"A Limitless Path" displays a brother and sister hand in hand, one with a disability. The writing on top lists names of many successful and famous people who all have disabilities effect their lives. Showing that anyone can accomplish anything that they desire. "Deconstructing Boundaries and Shattering Myths" shows a young girl playing, her happiness and inclusion uneffected by her Down Syndrome. Children such as these have a lot to teach people about carrying out fulfilled lives.

River Market Art Fest September 2007

River Market Art Fest was a great success! I want to thank everyone who came out to visit me, and to see my newest works! This was a really nice show. I had a chance to meet a lot of wonderful people. I had a lot of fun speaking with all of you. I am very thankful for meeting some amazing fellow artists from Kansas City as well! Kansas City is an excellent community for artists!

In the pictures you can see quite a few of my prints and one of my very favorite paintings currently, "Self Embrace". I am looking forward to the next art fair to come. I will keep you posted on when that will be!
